Cricket is Indians beloved sports, popular among the young, old, men, women, boys and girls. Every young sports enthusiast has cricket player as a role model.

From Kolkata Knight Riders, to Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, IPL clubs are big deal in India. The love for cricket is undeniable.

An Indian lady who doesn't love cricket jeopardize the love and attention of her partner but while the prominence of the India Premier League goes beyond the Asian continent, some newcomers on the IPL bandwagon may find it difficult to identify with a club.

A quick look into the history of the India Premier League shows that the league is a T-20 cricket League started in 2007 and contested by 10 Indian clubs.

The 2020 season of the league was moved because of the covid 19 pandemic and played in the United Arab Emirates. Fourteen seasons have been played in the league with four different winners.

The biggest winners of the league are Mumbai Indians with 5 titles across while rivalled by Chennai Super Kings with 4 titles won so far. Deccan Riders and Kolkata Night Riders are the other winners with one and two titles respectively.

Thirteen years old Delhi Capitals was founded in the year 2008 as Delhi Daredevils but it wasn't until 12 years later before they played in their first IPL final.

In their thirteen years in the IPL, the team has a 44.4% win average but their highest win percentage didn't even come during the year when they played in the IPL final.

The team's highest win average was in their second year in 2009 with 66.6% and a 64.27% ten years later.

 

2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions of the India Premier League, but their path to the success was never easy. The team was one of the two teams that serve the suspension, due to personal issues in 2015 and only made a return to the IPL three years later.

However, this doesn't stop them from being one of the most successful teams in the IPL, with four IPL titles and 2 champions League T20 titles.

The team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu has the highest winning average of any team in the Indian Premier League with a 59.83%. Their primary home ground is the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai with a 50,000 Capacity.

They also play at the JSCA International Stadium Complex and the Ranchi Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

Popular referred to as the underachievers of the India Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore deservedly got the tag after three runners up finishes.

The highest and the lowest totals in the IPL – 263/5 and 49 respectively, belongs to the team, talk about seeing it all except seeing the title lifted up.

The team is based in Bengalore Karnataka and plays its games at the home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.


4. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders is a testament of the love for the IPL which cuts across several economic, social, cultural, religious factors. Kolkata Knight Riders are owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta.

Their link with celebrity owners have made them well accepted. They also have emerged as championed on two different times.They won the IPL in 2012, after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final and in 2014, after beating Kings XI Punjab.

However, their celebrity ownership isn't the only good thing about this team, as mentioned earlier, their 14 match winning streak is the longest by any IPL team in the T-20. They are also team also is one of the richest IPL teams.

They are based Kolkata West Bengal, while their home is the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, with a 68,000 capacity.

 

5. Mumbai Indians

The moneybags of the IPL crossed the $100 million in 2017 and they have remained the IPL team with the highest value for four years.

They are rivals with Chennai Super Kings but are far more successful with five IPL titles and also became the first team to win 100 IPL games on their way to those titles. They also have two Champions League T-20 to their name.

Based in Mumbai, they play their games at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which has a 33,108 capacity. Their title wins in the Indian Premier League have come in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, while their Champions League T20 wins were in 2010 and 2014.

 

6. Rajasthan Royals

If you are a fan of sports team finding obscure talents and turning them to world class talents then Rajasthan Royals is the IPL team to tag on to. There are one of the best teams in the IPL.

They are the first ever winner of the first edition of the IPL in 2008 and runners-up of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20.

The team also failed to participate in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the IPL after they were suspended for betting scandal.

Rajasthan Royals play at the 30,000 Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur while the 110,000 capacity Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, as well as the 25,000 Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai serves as a home ground.

 

7. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrise Hyderabad made their entry into the Indian Premier League in 2013 and they have gone on to win one IPL title in 2016. They have also showed consistency by qualifying for every play off since 2016.

The Hyderabad based team plays it games at the 55,000 capacity Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, these teams are the teams that are present in the IPL as there is a need to also mention that some teams are now defunct for various reasons.
